Study Program Doctorate


The SPD IPB Doctoral Program is one of the postgraduate programs under the management of the Department of Communication Sciences and Community Development (SKPM Department), Faculty of Human Ecology (FEMA) IPB. Its vision and mission are based on epistemology and axiology, in line with the principles of the institution above. In addition, the social dynamics experienced by rural communities at both the local and global levels are also important considerations and the basis for the establishment of the SPD Doctoral Program at IPB.
The SPD Doctoral Program at IPB provides high-quality higher education by applying empirical research in rural sociology; develops, produces, critiques, refines, and enriches rural sociology research theories and methodologies as applied social sciences; and applies concepts and theories from various philosophical bases, as well as sociological approaches, in order to usher in a more just and sustainable civilization.

Vision

To become a leading academic program and a benchmark in producing human resources with expertise in philosophy, theory, and new discoveries (inventions) in the field of Rural Sociology in Southeast Asia by 2035.

Mission

1. Conducting education in the field of rural sociology with a primary focus on: social transformation processes in rural communities and rural areas, taking into account the development of digital ecosystems and the equitable and sustainable management of natural resources and the environment.
2. Developing and managing thematic research to obtain new findings in the field of sociology that are beneficial to rural communities and rural areas, as well as nationally and internationally recognized science.
3. Implementing/initiating collaboration and managing research cooperation with various disciplines through an interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary approach to solve problems in rural communities and rural areas based on research.

Developing competent human resources in analyzing social dynamics through sociological concepts with a focus on communities and villages in tropical agro-maritime ecosystems. Graduates are also prepared as experts capable of collaborating in solving social problems that connect people with society and the environment. Lecturers, students, and graduates of the SPD doctoral program are encouraged to become patriotic intellectuals who contribute to technological development and social innovation in Indonesia.
