Study Program Magistrate

Master of Sciences in Agribusiness (S2 AGB) program offers advanced agribusiness competencies through mastery of sciences and various knowledge-based decision skills for natural resource-based business organizational entities (private or public). The program we offer program offering is based on the belief that adequate mastery of knowledge and mastery of good knowledge based decision making skills can help the world of agribusiness in Indonesia, especially in facing increasingly rapid developments.

The characteristics of agribusiness, especially tropical agribusiness, include the characteristics of a dual faceted industry where small-scale farming exists side by side with corporate business, often in situations of sharp contrast. One of the missions of the AGB Masters program is to prepare graduate competencies to enable them to achieve harmonious co-existence. On the other hand, genetic engineering technology has opened new horizons in cultivation techniques, resulting in changes in the pattern/combination of production inputs. On the distribution and processing side, a spirit of partnership has emerged between economic agents along the agribusiness product supply chain. Meanwhile, public services and other supporting sub-sectors tend to be asymmetrical. On the other hand, the energy crisis and the increasing trend in using plant-based fuels (biofuels) have opened up market opportunities for small farmers and corporations.

Adaptive and responsive agribusiness experts can anticipate and overcome the description of developments above so that sustainable agribusiness with an entrepreneurial character can be achieved. In other words, agribusiness experts must be adequately prepared with increasingly advanced and in-depth agribusiness knowledge and skills. This is a challenge for all agribusiness stakeholders. The IPB Agribusiness Master of Sciences Program (Rector's Decree No. 039/I3/PP/2010) is a form of commitment to in responding to the challenges above. This program will equip graduates with basic and applied knowledge, which will ultimately strengthen and sharpen their competencies to analyse and produce an inform decision in the mega sector of agribusiness.

Grounded in the distinctive characteristics of the agribusiness field of study, the mandate of the Department of Agribusiness as stipulated in the Rector’s Decree No. 001/K13/PP/2005, which serves as the guideline for the implementation of the Agribusiness curriculum from the undergraduate to the doctoral level, is as follows: “The development of knowledge and insights on systems, enterprises, and entrepreneurship in sustainable tropical agribusiness.”

This program equips its graduates with a series of advanced agribusiness courses that strengthen and deepen their expertise in understanding, analysis, and decision-making skills in both private and public agribusiness based on scientific knowledge.
