Study Program Magistrate
The KMP Study Program offers two areas of specialization: (1) Development Communication and (2) Extension Communication. The program responds to the emerging VUCA phenomenon (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity) by fostering the 16 skills required for the 21st-century workforce as identified by the World Economic Forum (2015). World Economic Forum
IPB University accommodates these competencies within its Education 4.0 framework. These skills are highly relevant and essential to be integrated into the KMP curriculum, both through the enrichment of course content and the development of innovative learning methods, as well as through extracurricular activities, considering the distinctive characteristics of the KMP program and its qualification level within the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (KKNI).
Graduates of the KMP program are expected to demonstrate the ability to work in multidisciplinary settings. This requires strong scientific literacy in development communication and extension communication, as well as in other relevant fields of knowledge. Addressing complex problems and engaging in multidisciplinary collaboration necessitate competencies in critical thinking and problem solving, effective communication, teamwork and collaboration, and the cultivation of leadership character.
As a program in applied (pragmatic) social sciences, KMP graduates are also expected to possess the capacity to analyze and address social problems. Accordingly, they must develop competencies in cultural and civic literacy, alongside scientific literacy, to explain and interpret phenomena in development communication and extension communication.
Development communication—encompassing both the specialization in development communication and extension communication—is an applied social science discipline grounded in strong theoretical foundations (Steimel, 2014; Berger, 2011; Seibold, 2000; Sewell et al., 2017). Therefore, teaching and learning within this study program integrate theoretical competence with practical problem-solving skills, particularly as reflected in the design and implementation of development communication and extension communication strategies.
