Study Program Undergraduate

The Undergraduate Program in Marine Science and Technology (Prodi S1-ITK), offered by the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, IPB University (FPIK-IPB), is a pioneer of higher education in marine studies in Indonesia (established in 1987) and serves as a benchmark for the establishment and development of similar academic programs nationwide. Accredited by both the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) and the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science, and Technology (IMarEST), the program, originally named Marine Science and delivered since 1987, has become an integral part of IPB University in preparing highly competent, agile, professional, and entrepreneurial graduates in the fields of marine science, tropical biosciences, and agriculture in a broad sense. Strategic institutional governance reforms and curriculum alignment with the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program have been firmly implemented to strengthen IPB as a research-based university while fostering techno-socio-entrepreneurship among its academic community, thereby supporting the advancement of Indonesia’s Agro-Maritime 4.0 development. Students enrolled in the S1-ITK program since 2010 and graduating from IPB are eligible to obtain the additional academic degree of BSc (Hons.) in Marine Science and Marine Technology, as well as register as a Registered Marine Technologist (in full) with the IMarEST professional body. The full accreditation granted by this UK Engineering Council-licensed institution based in London complements the most recent A accreditation awarded by BAN-PT in 2018. Currently, the S1-ITK Program offers two study tracks (Regular and International classes) with program objectives to: (1) prepare graduates to become members of society who are faithful and devoted to God Almighty, possess noble character, strong moral values, physical well-being, knowledge, competence, creativity, independence, democratic attitudes, and responsibility, and who are capable of applying marine science and technology and/or the arts to strengthen Indonesia’s maritime cultural excellence; (2) develop and disseminate knowledge, technology, arts, and innovation that support the sustainability of marine resources and environments; and (3) contribute solutions, within its capacity, to national agro-maritime development while addressing global ocean-related issues.

Vision

To support the consolidation of IPB University as a Techno-Socio-Entrepreneurship University by 2045, as well as the realization of the Department of Marine Science and Technology and the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences as internationally reputable, research-based institutions committed to inclusive innovation development—particularly in the exploration of marine resources and environments and the advancement of sustainable Agro-Maritime 4.0 development.

Mission

M1) Deliver comprehensive, high-quality teaching and learning processes in marine science and technology to enhance graduates’ competitiveness and independence. M2) Develop curricula that meet the needs of both national and international stakeholders while strengthening IPB as a research-based university. M3) Enhance the agility and competence of academic staff and educational personnel in response to evolving technologies, governance, management systems, and academic quality assurance. M4) Improve the quality and quantity of teaching and learning facilities and infrastructure, particularly those that strengthen the relevance of research to Agro-Maritime 4.0 development.
