The Department of Resource and Environmental Economics (ESL Department) was officially established on January 10, 2005, through IPB Rector's Decree No. 001/K13/PP/2005. The ESL Department is one of the departments under the Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) IPB, in accordance with IPB Rector's Decree No. 112/K13/OT/2005 dated August 2, 2005.

The ESL Department is the first department in Indonesia to study the management of resources and the environment from an economic theory perspective. It examines the impact on society as a whole, both as actors and recipients of the impact. The department develops three scientific fields: Agricultural Economics, Resource Economics, and Environmental Economics.

Vision

To be a leading department at national and international levels in the development of agricultural, resource, and environmental economics to realize a technosocio-entrepreneurial university oriented toward sustainable development and community welfare.

Mission

1. To organize higher education that produces superior, principled, and competent human resources in the fields of Agricultural, Resource, and Environmental Economics.

2. To develop scientific knowledge in agricultural, resource, and environmental economics to support sustainable development.

3. To implement the Tri-Dharma of Higher Education (Education, Research, and Community Service) to contribute to the development of agriculture, natural resources, and the environment for community welfare.
