Study Program Undergraduate
Biochemistry is the study of chemical substances and processes occurring in humans, animals, plants, and microorganisms, as well as the changes they undergo during development and life. It studies the chemistry of life and is supported by analytical techniques, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, and physiology related to molecular processes. All chemical changes within an organism—whether the degradation of substances, generally to obtain necessary energy, or the formation of complex molecules necessary for life—are called metabolism. These chemical changes depend on the action of organic catalysts known as enzymes, and the existence of enzymes depends on genetics. Therefore, the scope of biochemistry is vast, including the study of the pathophysiology of diseases, drug mechanisms, and other medical aspects, as well as nutrition, genetics, and agriculture.
The Undergraduate Program in Biochemistry at IPB University is the first Undergraduate Biochemistry Program in Southeast Asia. Based on the Decree of the Rector of IPB No. 001/K13/PP/2005, in 2005, the management of the Undergraduate Biochemistry Program was handled by the Department of Biochemistry, which is also under the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA). In order to fulfill the program's mandate and in relation to planning education, research, and community service activities, the Biochemistry Program has established three divisions with their respective tasks and functions: the Biomolecule Division, the Metabolism Division, and the Bioanalysis Division.
To become an institution of higher education that excels and leads in education, research, and community service, capable of contributing to the development of biochemistry knowledge and technology at the national and international levels to promote and strengthen the nation's dignity
Mission1. Organizing quality education and teaching to prepare educated individuals who are excellent and professional in developing biochemistry knowledge and technology in accordance with the development of science and societal needs both at the national and international levels;
2. Conduct research activities to develop and produce science and technology innovations that can contribute to society in utilizing, applying, and advancing knowledge and technology in biochemistry for the progress of the nation;
3. Carrying out the dissemination of science and technology innovation results through community service activities as an effort for enlightenment, welfare, and the sustainable improvement of quality of life;
