Study Program Undergraduate
The Undergraduate Program in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (PS-TPB) is one of the study programs managed by the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FTT), IPB University (Institut Pertanian Bogor/IPB). Throughout its history, the program has undergone several name changes in line with changes in the department/faculty as the managing academic unit.
As the forerunner of the current PS-TPB, the Agricultural Mechanization Study Program graduated its first cohort in 1971. Each year, PS-TPB admits approximately 100–120 students, with a total active student population of around 450–460 students. PS-TPB is accredited “Excellent” by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) until March 21, 2028 (Decree of the Director of the Executive Board of BAN-PT No. 2292/SK/BAN-PT/Akred-Itnl/S/VI/2023) and has also obtained international accreditation from the Indonesia Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (IABEE) until February 22, 2028 (Accreditation Certificate No. 00096.A).
The PS-TPB educational system applies Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and refers to the IPB 2025 Curriculum with 11 Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs). The curriculum is designed to produce graduates with an Independent Professional Profile (IPP) who are capable of identifying, formulating, and solving problems in the field of agriculture and biosystems using engineering approaches. Graduates are also expected to possess a socio-technopreneurial character, be able to work collaboratively, communicate effectively, and adhere to engineering ethics. The characteristics of the IPP and ILOs developed by PS-TPB are aligned with the vision, mission, values, and policies of IPB as the institution under which PS-TPB operates.
PS-TPB is managed with adequate research and educational facilities, including classrooms, workshops, practice and testing laboratories, as well as field laboratories. The program is supported by 33 active faculty members, 30 of whom hold doctoral degrees and 3 hold master’s degrees, graduating from various countries: the Netherlands, Indonesia, Germany, Japan, Canada, Taiwan, Thailand, and the USA. Eleven faculty members (33%) hold the academic rank of professor.
PS-TPB graduates are prepared to become designers, managers, supervisors, or consultants in plantations, agricultural machinery workshops/manufacturing industries, food and agricultural product processing industries, agricultural construction and buildings, as well as renewable energy sectors. In addition, graduates may pursue careers as researchers/academics in educational and research institutions and government agencies, or as entrepreneurs in fields related to agriculture and biosystems.
To become an internationally recognized study program that is innovative, excellent in research, and characterized by entrepreneurship, particularly in the field of mechanical and biosystems engineering.
Mission1. To provide outstanding undergraduate (S1), master’s (S2), and doctoral (S3) education in mechanical and biosystems engineering, supported by reliable facilities and infrastructure as well as an effective and efficient curriculum, in order to produce graduates who are competitive at national and international levels and possess entrepreneurial character in the field of mechanical and biosystems engineering.
2. To conduct basic and applied research in mechanical engineering, biosystems engineering, renewable energy engineering, and bioinformatics engineering for the development of science and technology that benefit agrarian, maritime, and industrial communities.
3. To carry out community service that promotes innovation in science and technology and entrepreneurial values while maintaining the noble values of the nation and the sustainability of natural resources.
4. To strengthen an effective, efficient, transparent, and accountable departmental management and governance system.
